Fashion connoisseur Tim Blanks summed up Prada’s a/w 2008 menswear show with: “male vulnerability wrapped up in a shirt.” I’m not one to deny my adoration for Prada’s mind and designs because it was this collection, shown in mid-January, that foretold the hoards of androgyny spilling from the sartorial pores of Europe in June for the Spring 2009 menswear collections. That’s the power of a visionary. Much like Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga is in womenswear.

Like many other iconic fashion houses Burberry Prorsum has its signatures pieces. For Louis Vuitton it’s the eloping “L” and “V” and for Chanel it’s the luxurious incorporation of tweed that has existed within the threadwork of the house since it was well established in the 1920s. Like many of the influential houses that are still in existence they’ve reinvented that once iconic symbol with ultra-modern relevance.

If there’s one thing that cannot be denied of the Dior Homme spring 2009 collection, it is the effective use of popping colours. The electric blues, fuchsias and metallic gold blots were placed at the perfect time to nudge the observers when their eyes grew tired of scoping out the details on the boarder-line monotonous all-black looks.
